The four screens of FluxTime, the kinds of items you put on your calendar, and how logged time reaches your goals.
FluxTime connects what you want to achieve with how you actually spend your time. A few ideas run through the whole app. Once they make sense, every screen does too.
Four screens, one loop
| Screen | What it holds | The question it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Vision | Goals, projects, todos and reminders | What am I working toward? |
| Today | Tasks, events, reminders and time blocks on a timeline | What am I doing today, and when? |
| Journal | One entry each time you switch to something new | What did I actually do? |
| Review | Totals, trends and forecasts built from the journal | Where did my time go, and are my goals on pace? |
You plan from Vision into Today, log into Journal, and learn from Review. What you learn shapes the next plan. Flux AI works across all four screens.
Goals, projects and todos
Vision arranges your plans in three levels:
- A goal is a result you want, with a start date, an end date and an estimate in hours. Example: Ship the iPad app by March.
- A project is a piece of the goal you can finish. Example: Onboarding flow.
- A todo is a step small enough to do in one sitting, with its own date and estimate. Example: Draft the welcome screen.
Progress is measured in hours, not checkboxes. See Goals.
Tasks, events, reminders and blocks
Everything on the Today timeline is one of four kinds:
| Kind | Timing | Belongs to a goal? | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Task | Flexible. It can move until its deadline. | Yes, through its project | Write the weekly report |
| Event | Fixed start and end | Yes, through its project | Team meeting, doctor's appointment |
| Reminder | A date, with an optional time range | No | Pay rent, renew a passport |
| Block | A range of time you take off the table | No | Lunch, commute, a meeting-free morning |
Tasks and events are both todos; an event is a todo with Is Event turned on. Reminders live in Vision's Reminder tab, apart from your goals. Blocks keep time free: Plan my day and Flux AI schedule around them. See Time blocks.
Journal entries and categories
The journal is a time log without a timer. Each entry starts when you write it and ends when you write the next one, so two entries make one stretch of time. See Journal entries.
Each entry is filed under a category, like Work or Health, or linked to a todo. Categories can have subcategories, a color, an icon and an energy level. See Categories.
How time reaches a goal
A journal entry counts toward a goal in one of two ways:
- Linked to a todo. The entry counts toward the todo's goal. This is the most precise.
- Filed under the goal's time category. The entry counts toward goals that use that category.
That is why a goal moves forward when you work on it, even if no todo is checked off, and why Review can tell you when a goal will finish at your current pace.
Free and Pro
The whole loop works on the free plan. Flux Pro adds Plan my day, unlimited Flux AI, the advanced Review charts, cloud sync and Apple Calendar. See Free and Pro.
